I grew up In Milwaukee Wisconsin and studied law at Georgetown University and practiced law for 30 years in the field of mine safety. Starting in the 1990’s I became interested in art and began taking classes in academic western traditional art. Around the year 2000 I began to study East Asian art techniques at the Torpedo factory in Alexandria and the Smithsonian Institution. I started studying the Japanese language, and have traveled to Japan multiple  times, where I have studied traditional Japanese painting methods. I have also studied the art of Japanese calligraphy with Sensei Takeo Ichimura. After my retirement from law, I studied art in China in Hangzhou, and in Tokyo Japan.

I now live in Milwaukee in summer and in Arlington Virginia the remainder of the year,  I am now a full-time practicing artist and teach Asian brush painting at The Torpedo Factory. I am a Board member of the Nation Capitol Area Chapter of the Sumie Society of America, and a member of the Sumie Society of America and have been selected for inclusions in multiple juried shows.
